| I just got into a car accident...I’ll do my best to recount the whole situation.
I had just went home from eating dinner with Jenny, Priscilla, Michelle, Map, and all those guys, and had just arrived home after cruising there with Thi and Aaron in Thi's RAV4 to go pick up my GF Mariana. We picked her up, and took off, Thi was driving, Aaron was in the passenger seat, Mari in the rear drivers side seat, and I was in the rear passenger side. We didn't travel 2 minutes before making a fateful unprotected left turn into the intersection at Pearl and Orange, the one that leads over to the 10.
We were going fairly fast, but by no means speeding (Thi is a very good driver), started to pull into the intersection, then time slowed down. I could see the car coming towards us, traveling at at least 50 or 60 MPH, probably more. I just stared at it from the back seat for what seemed like an eternity, and yet before I could even get out a "Thi, look out!", I heard a loud noise and blanked out.
All I can say is, thank god everyone was wearing a seat belt. It was a complete head-on with the cars doing a combined speed of probably around 100 MPH. When I came too, I saw Aaron getting out of the car, Thi just staring forward blankly, and at the guy screaming obscenities and standing next to his demolished Acura. I saw both front airbags with big face-shaped dents in them. I looked over and saw Mari pretty much passed out, just kind of laying with her head rolling back and forth as she regained consciousness. Then I realized every thing was all blurry. I thought I had gotten a concussion or whiplash and my vision was going out, not realizing that my glasses were now wedged in the passenger seat door.
Aaron got out of the car, as did Thi. Mariana and I were still sitting in the back seats. I looked over to her, grabbed her arm and said “are you ok?”. She just sort of nodded, still completely knocked into next week. I unbuckled my seat belt and tried to open my door and couldn’t. I saw Aaron outside looking in and I started banging on my window, thinking my door had jammed, and heard Aaron said something to the effect of “Dude, it’s locked.” So I unlocked my door and stepped outside. I was still pretty much in shock, and was stumbling around trying to get a bearing. I walked around to the other side of the car, and helped Mari (whose 240$ dress was now completely destroyed) out. I looked over and saw a mexican guy and his GF cussing Thi out and arguing about what happened.
I had pretty much regained my bearings by then, so I checked and made sure no-one was badly injured, then got on the phone. I called my parents, Aaron called his, and Mari called hers. Thi was busy arguing with the people in the other car (he wouldn’t end up getting ahold of his parents who were out of town for several hours). Within a few minutes, I heard the sound of sirens as an ambulance rolled up on us. The ambulance workers came out and made sure no-one was badly injured. The cops showed up within the next couple minutes. Mariana’s mom and friends showed up first, and checked up on us, and brought her a blanket. Right about this time, I felt my chest starting to hurt a good bit. My parents, then Aaron’s would show up within the next 15 minutes as the cops redirected traffic around the intersection.
The cops got all of our statements, IDs, and info. We exchanged numbers with the other people and a few people came up to us with a phone number and told us to call them because they had seen everything that happened. Thi and Aaron seemed to be pretty much fine, but Mari still looked really dazed, and those guys split and decided to go to the hospital. We said bye, then Aaron left for home. We called everyone, let the people at the dance know what happened, I called my dad. Thi had to stay longer because the cops needed alot of stuff from him because he was the driver. They would tell us that it looked to be his fault, but that's a bunch of B.S. because the other car was absolutely flying and made no effort to get out of the way.
So tow trucks came and hauled off both vehicles (both totaled), and Thi came with us because he had no-one else to go with. We took him to his house, but then realized he left the garage door opener in his car, and had no other way to get in. So we took him back to my house, on the way he called his parents (who were in Santa Ana with the rest of his family) and the two of us hung out and reflected on the whole situation for a while. We watched some T.V. and after a few hours, his mother showed up and picked him up. Now I’m writing this, thinking how crazy the whole situation was and how we are so lucky that no one got badly injured or killed.
